What is a Product Add-on?

The Product Add-on feature lets you boost sales and enhance customer experience by offering related products at a special value when customers purchase a main item. This is a powerful tool for increasing average order value and promoting complementary products.

With Product Add-ons, you can:

  • Offer discounts on essential accessories (e.g., 20% OFF a screen protector with a phone).

  • Include a free gift with a main product (e.g., a scarf with a coat).

  • Add bonus items to increase perceived value (e.g., free coffee beans with a premium coffee machine).

  • Encourage matching purchases with item-specific discounts (e.g., 20% off a handbag when buying a dress).

  • Apply fixed savings on related products (e.g., $10 off socks with sneakers).

This feature is ideal for promotions, bundles, seasonal offers, and driving upsells without the need for complex configurations.

How to Set up Product Add-ons

STEP 1

Go to the homepage and select the Product Add-ons. Click “Select”

STEP 2

After you choose to create a Product Add-on, you'll be redirected to the Content section. This area is divided into four key sub-sections that help you customize how your bundle looks and works on your store:

1. Bundle Info

This section lets you customize the title of your bundle, which appears on the widget customers see while shopping. You can use this field to create an eye-catching or descriptive title that communicates the value of the add-on offer—like “Complete the Look”, “Bundle & Save”, or “Free Gift with Purchase”.

2. Product Setup

In this section, you’ll choose which products in your store will trigger the Product Add-on offer. You have three targeting options:

  • All Products – Apply the add-on to every product in your store. Ideal for storewide promotions or seasonal campaigns.

  • Specific Product – Choose individual products that will show the add-on. Perfect for highlighting accessories or complementary items for bestsellers.

  • Collection – Apply the add-on to all products within a selected collection. Useful when running promotions for a specific product category, like Shoes or Winter Jackets.

Once you select the product category—for example, All Products—you'll then be prompted to choose the Add-on Product you want to offer alongside those items. This is the product that will be shown as an optional add-on in the bundle widget.

For instance, if you're running a promotion to offer 20% off screen protectors with any phone, you would select All Products (assuming all phones), and then choose the screen protector as the add-on product.

This setup allows you to pair relevant items easily and encourage customers to add more to their cart.

3. Discount

In this section, you’ll decide how you want to price the add-on product. There are three discount types available:

  • Percentage Discount – Apply a percentage-based discount (e.g., 5% off). Ideal for flexible, attractive offers that scale with the add-on product’s price.

  • Fixed Amount Discount – Apply a flat monetary discount (e.g., $10 off). Great when you want to offer a clear, consistent savings regardless of the add-on’s price.

  • Without Discount – Simply display the add-on product at full price. Useful for free gifts (priced at $0) or when you're highlighting an item as a suggested complement rather than offering a discount.

4. Text Fields

This section lets you customize all the text displayed on the bundle widget, making it easy to translate the content into a different language or align the messaging with your brand voice.

You can update elements like the Free Text, and call-to-action labels to better engage your audience or fit regional preferences.

Now , click on the “Next” button to proceed to the next section .

After clicking the next you would be redirected to the next section that is Design

Step 3:

Design - The Design section allows you to customize the appearance of your bundle widget so it matches your store's branding and layout. It consists of several styling options. Let’s explore them:

1. Color

This option gives you full control over the color scheme of the bundle widget. You can:

  • Change the background color of the entire widget, product block, and Add to Cart button.

  • Customize the text color for elements like the bundle title, product name, price, variant selector, and button text.

  • Adjust the border color around the product container and product image to better align with your store's look and feel.

This flexibility ensures your bundle promotions not only look attractive but also blend seamlessly with your storefront design.

2. Typography

In this section, you can customize the font family, size, and style of various elements within the bundle widget to align with your store's branding. Options include adjusting the typography for the bundle title, product names, prices, free gift section, footer, and call-to-action (CTA) buttons.

3. Border

This option allows you to customize the border width and border radius of key elements within the bundle widget, including the product card, product images, and the Add to Cart button.

4. Product Image

This setting lets you control how product images appear within the bundle widget. You can:

  • Choose the image size: Small, Medium, or Large depending on your layout preference.

  • Set the display visibility: Show images on Desktop/Mobile, Desktop only, or hide them completely (None).

  • Use the checkbox visibility toggle to show or hide the selection checkbox for each product.

These options help you tailor the image display to ensure a clean and user-friendly experience across devices.

Now , click on the “Next” button to proceed to the next section .

After clicking the next you would be redirected to the next section that is “Advance”

Step 4:

Advanced Settings - The Advanced section gives you greater control over when, where, and to whom the bundle widget is shown. These settings are useful for precise targeting and scheduling. Let’s dive into each option:

1. Widget Position

This option allows you to choose where the bundle widget appears on your product page. You can select from the following positions:

  • Above Add to Cart (default position)

  • Below Add to Cart

  • Above Custom Element

  • Below Custom Element

To make positioning easier, you can also select the widget's position visually using the Shopify Theme Editor—no coding needed.

2. Scheduling

3. Customer Targeting

  • All customers

  • Specific customer segment

STEP 5

Click on “Save” button to save all the changes

STEP 6:

Click on “Activate” to activate the widget on your shopify store(make sure you have enabled the core snippet button in order to see the bundles on your store).

Your Product Add-on is now live.

You can preview it on your store by clicking the “Show on Store” button.
