A Frequently Bought Together (FBT) Bundle is a product recommendation feature that displays a group of related or complementary products typically purchased together by other customers.

These bundles are shown on the product page, encouraging shoppers to add multiple items to their cart with just one click, increasing overall cart value and delivering a seamless shopping experience.

FBT Bundles can be set up using manual selections or powered by AI-based recommendations that analyze past purchases and user behavior.

Why Should You Create a Frequently Bought Together Bundle?

Creating an FBT Bundle is one of the easiest and most effective ways to increase average order value (AOV) and improve the customer journey. Here’s why you should use it:

  • Boosts Conversions: Shows high-intent recommendations at the perfect moment — while the shopper is already interested.

  • Increases Cart Size: Encourages adding multiple items instead of just one, often increasing revenue per transaction.

  • Improves Product Discovery: Helps customers find related products they may not have searched for.

  • Saves Time for Shoppers: Offers convenience by bundling all essentials or commonly paired items in one click.

  • Data-Driven Upsell: When AI is used, the suggestions are backed by real customer behavior — improving accuracy and effectiveness.

Key Features of an FBT Bundle

1. Increases Order Value - Encourages customers to add more items to their cart by showcasing frequently purchased combinations, increasing overall cart size.

2. AI-Driven or Manual Setup - Choose between automatic AI-powered product suggestions or manually curate product pairings based on your strategy.

3. Boosts Conversions - Helps customers make faster purchase decisions by suggesting relevant, complementary products at the right moment.

4. Personalized Shopping Experience - Tailors recommendations using customer behavior and product relationships for a more intuitive and engaging user journey.

5. One-Click Add to Cart - Allows shoppers to add all recommended items in a bundle with a single click, simplifying the buying process.

How to Create an FBT Bundle?

STEP 1

Create an FBT Bundle

Go to the Kefi Bundle Builder dashboard and select the Frequently Bought Together Bundle option to create the bundle. Click ‘Select’.

STEP 2

Choose the Template

Select one of the available Frequently Bought Together (FBT) templates:

  1. Amazon Style – Renders below the Shopify Product Section

  2. Vertical – Renders below the Add to Cart button

For the purpose of this help guide, we’ll be selecting the Amazon Style template.

STEP 3

There are 3 sections available: Content, Design and Advanced.

The Widget Preview is available on the right side.

STEP 4

The Content tab is where you configure the core setup of your Frequently Bought Together bundle. This section allows you to input a title, choose how your product combinations are generated, and manage key offer components.

1. Bundle Info -

  • Title: Enter a name that communicates the value of the bundle to customers (e.g., “Frequently Bought Together”, “Complete the Look”, or “Perfect Pairing”).

  • Setup Mode - Choose how product combinations are selected:

1. AI Suggestions: The system will automatically suggest best-selling combinations based on your store’s data across all eligible products.

2. Manual: You manually define which products should appear together for specific items, giving you complete control over what’s shown.

STEP 5

2. Product Setup - The Product Setup section allows you to manually configure the product pairings for your Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle.

  • Main Product: This is the primary product your customer is viewing. Click “ Add Product” to select the item for which you want to recommend additional products.

  • Suggested Products: These are the complementary or related items that will appear as part of the FBT offer. Click “Add Products” to choose one or more items that should be suggested alongside the main product.
[Please note: You can only add up to 5 suggested products.]

You can also change the Main Product by clicking on ‘Edit’, or make any changes (addition, removal or change of product) in the suggested product range by clicking ‘Add Products’.

As you add or update these selections, the Widget Preview on the right will reflect your configuration in real time, allowing you to see how the bundle will appear to shoppers in your store.

If you want to show the different variants available, tick the ‘Show Swatches’ option. Then, click ‘Edit Swatches’ if you want to add swatches to the Variant Picker.

STEP 6

3. Discount - The Discount section allows you to apply special pricing to encourage customers to purchase all suggested items in a Frequently Bought Together bundle. This helps increase conversions by offering visible value and savings.

Discount Type: Choose from: Percentage Discount (%), Fixed Amount Discount ($), Fixed Bundle Price, Without Discount.

You can enter the Value beside the selected type (e.g., 5% for a percentage discount), and the Widget Preview updates in real time to reflect the discounted pricing across all bundled items.

STEP 7

4. Text Fields - The Text Fields section allows you to customize the text that appears in the Frequently Bought Together widget. This is especially useful if you want to display the widget content in other languages to cater to a multilingual audience. It also helps you align the messaging with your brand voice and enhance the user experience.

Footer Text - Customize the labels for:

  • Total – the total bundle cost (e.g., "Bundle Price" or "Subtotal")

  • Off – the discount label (e.g., "You Save" or "Discount")

Free Text - Display a short label for any free item included in the bundle (e.g., "Free", "Gift", or "Included").

Add to Cart CTA (Call to Action) - Choose to either use the default CTA (“Add to Cart”) or uncheck the box and enter your own text (e.g., “Get This Bundle” or “Complete My Set”)

STEP 8:

Design – Customize Your FBT Widget Appearance

The Advanced tab gives you additional control over how your Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle behaves on your storefront. It includes options for widget placement, scheduling, and customer targeting to ensure your offers are shown at the right place, time, and to the right audience.

1. Widget Position

  • Position: By default, the widget will appear below the Shopify Product Section. To change its position, open the Shopify Theme Editor and drag the app block to your preferred location on the product page.

  • Hide Shopify Elements: Enter specific CSS selectors here to hide Shopify-native components (e.g., redundant upsell blocks or pricing info) that might conflict with or duplicate what’s shown in the bundle.

For a detailed step-by-step guide, refer to this help article: How to Position Bundles on Your Product Page

STEP 10

2. Additional Settings

In this section, you can fine-tune customer interaction with the bundle:

  • Allow customers to deselect the main product – Gives shoppers the flexibility to remove the main product from the bundle if they choose.

  • Do not preselect the items in the bundle – Prevents the suggested products from being automatically selected, allowing customers to opt in manually.

STEP 11

3. Scheduling - Set a start date and time, and even an end date (click on the checkbox and set it) for your FBT Bundle offer. Ideal for limited-time campaigns, flash sales, or seasonal promos.

STEP 12

4. Customer Targeting - The Customer Targeting feature allows you to control who sees your Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle based on specific customer attributes. This is especially useful for offering exclusive bundles, running targeted campaigns, or rewarding high-value shoppers.

Display Bundle To:

  • All Customers – Show the offer to everyone visiting the product page.

  • Specific Customer Segment – Limit visibility to customers who meet certain criteria.

In case of Specific Customer Segment -

  1. Customer Tags - Show bundles only to users with certain Shopify tags (e.g., “VIP”, “Loyal”). You can include/exclude based on tags.

  2. Customer Countries - Limit bundle visibility by geographic region — useful for country-specific offers or regulations. You can include/exclude based on countries.

  3. Minimum Lifetime Spend - Display bundles only to customers who’ve spent above or less than a set threshold.

You can combine multiple rules using "AND" logic for even more precise targeting.

STEP 13

Click ‘Save’ to apply the customizations.

STEP 14

Finally, activate the FBT Bundle by simply clicking on ‘Activate’.

Once you’ve activated the bundle, you can also view it on the store. Simply click ‘Show on Store’
