Bulk Management: Import/Export to update hundreds of product options
Managing swatches for hundreds of products individually can be time-consuming. The Bulk Management feature allows you to use CSV (Comma Separated Values) files to map display styles and swatch colors across your entire store in minutes.
This guide will walk you through exporting your current data, making changes, and importing it back into the app.
The Two Types of Bulk Updates
Before you begin, decide which part of the app you want to update:
Bulk Update Options: Use this to assign styles (like "Circular Swatch" or "Button Pill") to variant names like "Size," "Color," or "Material" across your store.
Bulk Update Swatches: Use this to map specific HEX codes or image URLs to individual values (e.g., ensuring every product named "Crimson" uses the same specific red color code).
Step 1: Exporting Your Current Data
Navigate to the Product Page Settings tab.
Locate the Bulk Actions menu in the top-right corner.
Select the export option you need (Options or Swatches).
The app will generate a CSV file containing your current settings. Download and open this file using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel.
Step 2: Editing the CSV File
When you open the file, you will see columns for your Option Names, Values, and their assigned Styles or Colors.
To change a style: Simply type the name of the new style (e.g., change "Dropdown" to "Square Swatch") in the appropriate column.
To update colors: Enter the new HEX codes (e.g., #FFFFFF) or the link to your custom pattern images.
Important: Do not change the headers (the first row) of the CSV file, as this will cause the import to fail.
Step 3: Importing Your Changes
Once you have finished editing, save your file in .CSV format.
Return to the Bulk Actions menu in the app.
Click Import and upload your saved file.
The app will process the file. A confirmation message will appear once your hundreds of product variants have been successfully updated.
Best Practices for Bulk Management
Use Google Sheets for Accuracy
Excel can sometimes change the formatting of CSV files. We recommend using Google Sheets to ensure your HEX codes and column headers remain exactly as they were during export.
Start with a Small Test
If you are updating a massive catalog for the first time, try exporting and importing just 5-10 rows. Once you see the changes reflect correctly on your storefront, proceed with the rest of your products.
Keep a Backup
Always keep a copy of your original "Export" file. If you make a mistake during the editing process, you can simply re-import the original file to restore your previous settings.
